Share Index is an indicator or measure of something. In the world of capital markets, indexes of stocks and bonds are imaginary portfolios that measure changes in prices of a market or a portion of that market.
When the share index moves up, it means the price of most of the stocks measured by the index moves up. Conversely, if the share index moves down, most of the index constituent stocks move down. By looking at the movement of a share index, investors can find out the general price performance of their shares. In addition, investors can also find out the general condition of the share market in the event of changes in policy from home and abroad.
